I had Eli for DLAW. It’s a neat class if you’re looking for something more hands-on/real-world than a doctrinal but not as many credits as a clinic. The first few weeks of the semester, you meet as a class to discuss some basic cases relevant to local/municipal law making. After that, you’re mostly on your own to work on the project you are assigned with your partner. There will be periodic classes where you do updates/present what you’re working on/answer questions. I think you largely get out of this class what you put into it – if you’re excited about your topic area and working with a good partner, you’ll learn something neat about a new area of law and put together something that will hopefully go to good use for the city of Detroit.
