  1. I had her for 1L Crim. I think Starr is a very standard, very fair professor. She’s personable and funny, and her best moments in class, from my perspective, tended to be when she got a bit off track and let her personality come through. I don’t know if it was the class or her, but the worst aspect of the class was how dry the lectures were. I definitely don’t think I was the only one who found her lectures boring. I imagine this might be different in her other classes though– her research is actually extremely cool, coming from someone who has no interest in criminal law, and the couple days she spent lecturing about her research were among the best of the semester.

Her exam, in my opinion, is very fair. Generally the style is one gigantic issue spotter and some policy questions. The giant issue spotter is great because she makes it so challenging. She says usually the best exam of the class only spots around 80% of the issues, which I think is much better than an easy exam where everyone spots the issues and the differences in grading come down to the minute details. The policy questions are basically a type-fest where you echo much of what was said during the class policy discussions.
