I had Professor Bagley for Health Law, Fall 2010. It was his first time teaching the course. I found him to be well-prepared and enthusiastic.
I thought the course was good, hopefully he will do some reorganizing for the next go-round. The final was fair; however, it only focused on a small portion of the readings.
Overall I would give the course a B+ or A-. I am sure he will work to improve the materials and I would highly suggest taking him.
Coming from the same class, I felt he was truly one of (if not the) best law professor I had to date. Energetic, funny, caring, incredibly smart, well-prepared, just about any adjective you could describe.
I can’t disagree with the final being based on some of the materials, but it was based on the law that we learned. A lot of the policy principals in health law simply can’t be tested on in a law school exam setting, unless you want to simply ask for statistics or something.
I agree that some of the materials might be slightly improved but overall I really enjoyed the material. I looked forward to class and felt like I learned a ton about a ton of different health law topics. Would recommend Bagley for any course here at Michigan.
Bagley has been one of my favorite professors so far. Engaging, enthusiastic, well-prepared, teaching a very useful and relevant class in an interesting way (health law). I agree with the above reviews that the course needs to be fine tuned a bit and that the final wasn’t completely comprehensive, but I would still heartily recommend Bagley + Health Law.
I took Leg Reg with Bagley as my 1L elective. He’s a really engaging lecturer and is passionate about the subject. Cold calls were slightly intimidating, but this was partially because of the huge size of the class. Exam was fair.
Had him for LegReg, great class with him. Bagley did TFA right out of college and it shows – he knows how to structure a class in a way that many law school professors just never learned. He has a plan and he will get through it, even if questions or side conversations derail him a little bit. Very clear, very fair exam (in person, word limited sections, which meant that it was not a typing contest).
Office hours near the beginning of the semester were not as useful in my opinion – a lot of people would be there, and sometimes it would turn into him talking about just a few of the questions for a long time. Go later in the semester so you can actually talk to him. He’s a wonderfully kind and approachable person (though I think sometimes he can seem like one of those people who is just *so fancy*) and I think appreciates when you participate and ask questions. I definitely didn’t think he knew who I was post the class, but I bump into him sometimes in the hallways and he always says hello and knows my name!
1L Civ Pro. Fantastic professor. I believe he was a theater kid and it shows in class. Well-choreographed and clear lectures with a fair and balanced test.
Overrated. He thinks very highly of himself, bordering on narcissistic levels. Like he thinks he’s a superstar that everyone knows or should know. While I learned a bit in his class, I felt that his lectures were could have been deeper and less superficial. The psedu economic analysis was at times comedic and he should have stuck more to the law and left the econ stuff to the real experts. One of the better professors but, again, vastly overrated.

Winter 2011 approves of the comments above
