  1. Had him for Legal Ethics, Fall 2011. Don’t take this class. Thought it would be a nice little 2 credit class as prep for the MPRE. It is the most mind-numbing experience I’ve had since being stuck on a bus for 33 hours.

  2. Legal Ethics, F19. It’s … pretty dull. But, he’s a really nice dude (he donates a TON of money to SFF) and he really will answer whatever you ask him. He also knows the model rules back and forth, and he helps write them. Someone in our class pointed out that one of the rules seemed unfair to clinic students, and lo and behold, now the rule is changing to exempt clinic students. From what I gather, if you’re into “networking”, he’s a good guy to know.

  3. Had him for Law Firm Careers and thoroughly enjoyed the class. The readings are interesting and he adapts the class to what students are most interested in. I don’t think any other class pulls back the curtain on BigLaw and it’s refreshing to have blunt honesty.

It’s a low-stress, high return class and I would recommend it.

  4. Had him for Model Rules. If you are interested in taking a chill class to get the professional responsibility requirement out of the way — this is a great class to take. Obviously not the most interesting class, but I didn’t think it was that bad. Professor Hirshon is also so sweet and a great person to go to for C&F questions.

I would advise, however, to only take this course if it isn’t being graded on the curve. If Professor Hirshon can, he tries to give better grades if unrestricted. Also, the exam was a bit difficult. It is partly a huge issue spotter and partly a true/false/short answer portion where he asks questions based on random things mentioned in class. I would recommend swapping class notes with someone else in the course so you don’t miss any minute thing mentioned in class that he may test.

  5. Had him for Law Firm Careers. Great man, cares about his students, has a lot to offer, and gives his time and knowledge as generously as anyone I have met. He was incredibly responsive to student needs during COVID. The paper for the class was a great opportunity to explore something I would not have had the opportunity to otherwise. This class was a bit redundant with Pro Bono and Big Law. I suggest only taking one of the two.

  6. Had him for Law Firm Careers. Great, easy class. Go get your 3 credits and fulfill your writing requirement with this walk in the park. You really don’t have to read at all…you just need to get a sense of what the topic is for the week and get your participation points by emailing him a question (to be asked in class) the Sunday before.

There’s a 20 page paper + a 10 minute presentation. It’s supposed to be a “discussion” based class but really you just ask your presubmitted question and then he talks about the questions. Lots of guest speakers who varied wildly in how interesting they were.

  7. Sweetest guy and he was the former ABA prez. Class discussion can get quite boring, but he didn’t mind us having our laptops out. Very open to suggestions with changes to the class that he would implement in real time. Def take class if it’s uncurved. He’s a g.

  8. Took Legal Ethics with him. It was 1 of the 2 more boring classes I ever took. It is hard to follow him and even to hear him, particularly if it is a big class. He was told repeatedly to adjust the microphone, but didn’t seem to care enough because we had the same problem during the full semester. On the positive side, the subject is useful for the MPRE and most of the invited speakers are really good.
