  1. I currently have Professor Choi for contracts. He’s awesome! He’s transitioned the class to the remote format really well, including using review slides at the beginning of each class to clarify the material from the previous class and a panel cold-call system. He often includes news articles or recent examples to illustrate concepts we’re covering in the course. His explanations of the material are crystal clear and his dad jokes are the best! During the remote semester, he’s also been extremely generous with his time, offering office hours twice a week and meeting with students outside of that time as well. He’s definitely made it clear that he would like to get to know the students outside of class, despite all of the obstacles.

  2. Currently taking Choi for Contracts (Fall ’21) and it has been a good experience. The reading is usually 5-10 pages a day, so not too bad, and he walks through each case during our class time. Only piece of advice: If you do not know the answer to his cold calls or did not do the reading, just admit that. He can be a bit of a jerk if it is obvious you have no idea what you are doing.

  3. Had Choi for contracts and he was hilarious. He’s the rare combination of a professor who has an entertaining in-class personality, but also a natural ability to explain concepts. The reading was very light and he places on emphasis on looking at 1 case each day in exceptional detail. Because of this, I felt concepts were drilled into my head. I will say that asking questions in class (go to office hours) and even cold calls can be kinda nerve-wracking in a way other doctrinals aren’t. This is due to the fact that he can be a bit of a jerk and (to his credit) he wants to assure he has time to explain topics and not waste time on students who either didn’t do the reading or just want to hear themselves talk.

The exam was laughably hard, but everyone thought it was hard + curve.

  4. Had him for M&A and would not recommend. Although he seems to be loved by his contracts students, I don’t know anyone that liked this class (even his former contracts students). The subject is too interesting to be taught like this. Boring, hard to follow, focus too much on PowerPoint slides, a lot in the syllabus was not covered, the book is not great, and he doesn’t bring real life experience, so teaches from theory. Looking for something positive, he seems to be passionate about it and some of the current news examples that he brought were interesting.

  5. Had him for contracts. I think people like him because he is pretty clear and he inserts jokes into the class. However, I did not really like the class after being in law school longer and had more experience. I think he simplifies the law and doesn’t really want to be challenged so he will just brush it off like you shouldn’t talk about it or explore it or care about it. I think he likes to make these square boxes and everything fit according to how he thinks they should but it is just not reality and does not reflect even in courts (through opinions). I think it is quite annoying and impedes learning. He is also very secretive in answering questions about his practice exams and is just overall really weird. It’s almost like he doesn’t really want to help you learn but wants to see who can prevail based on a set rule. I find him to be insincere and unhelpful.

    1. I’ve had him for contracts and M&A. He’s friendly and a good lecturer, knowing how to summarize as he goes. His cold calls are of varying difficulty. Both finals I took with him were hard, tough to complete within the 3 hours allotted, and involved some ball-hiding. But the curve reflects that. Overall, he is friendly and knowledgeable and I would take him again.
